How do I self-evaluate the UPSC Mains answer sheet and find the scope?

Take previous year questions and write answers for them. You can compare these answers with the solved papers or model answers uploaded by many websites. For other questions, many coaching institutes upload toppers answer sheets. Download them, before reading their answers, try attempting those questions. Compare your answers with the toppers answers. Check if you are meeting UPSC requirements- i.e., Are you giving to the examiner a good answer, which is expected from a serious aspirant? This is what is expected: According to UPSC notification: The main Examination is intended to assess the overall intellectual traits and depth of understanding of candidates rather than merely the range of their information and memory. Your answers should reflect this. If a candidates handwriting is not easily legible, a deduction will be made on this account from the total marks otherwise accruing to him. (Here legibility is important, hand writing need not be beautiful, but whoever is correcting the paper, should be able to read it). Marks will not be allotted for mere superficial knowledge. Credit will be given for orderly, effective and exact expression combined with due economy of words in all subjects of the examination. (Maintain word limit and a structure in answer) All the Best!
